Top 10 Healthiest Treats YOU can buy for your DOG!
Author- Tracy Dirian April 22nd 2026
Every pet parent understands how exhausting it can be to scan over every label and obsess over the ingredients in their dog’s treats. Any time I’d go to the pet supply store, I would spend over 30 minutes browsing the treat aisle in the hopes of finding a healthy, valuable treat for my dogs. Just like humans, dogs have different tastes when it comes to treats, and it can be super overwhelming to attempt to find a treat they like. I’ve wasted hundreds of dollars on treats that my dogs wouldn’t even look at. This list is a science-backed, comprehensive list of the Top 10 Healthiest (and tastiest) treats you can buy for your fuzzy pal. (Ranked in no particular order)
(Please note that the items listed are TREATS and should be given as such. Even though these products are considered “healthy,” they should never be used as a meal replacement or given above the recommended amount!)

Why this may not be your first choice:
Some pets with urinary issues or kidney problems should not be given this treat due to its high sodium content.
I give these to my pups at least once a week, and they are a great addition to add into a Kong toy for a long-lasting enrichment session. They can also be cut up with kitchen shears (into appropriately sized pieces so your pup doesn’t choke) and used as a high-value training treat!

Another Full Moon product? Why not? These are another fantastic treat made by Full Moon that my dogs and many shelter pets go absolutely coocoo for! Mainly used as a “training treat”, these little kibble-sized treats can be used in all sorts of enrichment from snuffle mats, to scent games, even just being rolled up in a kitchen towel or cardboard tube to create a tasty, low-kcal, fun enrichment or training session!

Cookie Pal is one of my dogs’ favorite brands. These are another treat that is great for both training (in moderation) and enrichment! They have the same applications as the Full Moon Beef Bites and offer a large range of flavors to fit your dog’s tastes!
#4. Chewy Made Natural Dental Chew Sticks
Chewy Made Natural Dental Chew Sticks

Product Highlights:

Fights plaque and tartar on your dog’s teeth.

Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains multiple potential sensitivity triggers/allergens (Chicken, Dairy, Wheat, Pork, Rice)
Some pet parents have reported that this product may be hard for your pup to digest.
Some pets with urinary issues or kidney problems should not be given this treat due to its high sodium content
These are one of those treats that I give only once or twice a month at most for multiple reasons. In short, they’re an amazing dental treat but may trigger some sensitivities and contain a lot of common allergens that may not agree with your dog’s tummy. These should be given very sparingly, and even though a lot of dogs enjoy them, they should be monitored closely to avoid choking.
#5 Mighty Paw Yak Cheese Dog Chews
Mighty Paw Yak Cheese Dog Chews
Ingredients: Made from just milk, salt, and lime.
275 kcal ME/serving
Serving Size Suggestion:
1 Chew—Intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only, and should be fed as a treat.
Product Highlights:
Mighty Paw Yak Cheese Chews, in its lifetime, has never issued a recall.
Made with only 3 ingredients.
Helps keep teeth clean by reducing plaque and tartar.
Contains NO lactose. (as per description on company website)
Why this may not be your first choice:
May cause choking hazard if not supervised while enjoying.
Has a potential to chip teeth due to its overall bone-like hardness.
As much as I would love for this treat to have the #1 spot, it unfortunately does not make the cut. These treats are absolutely amazing. I’ve given them to many shelter dogs and my personal pets since these hit the shelves back in 2021. However, they can pose a serious risk to your dog’s well-being if not properly supervised during use. *Once the treat is sizable enough to fit completely in your dog’s mouth, I highly recommend soaking it in water for 5-10 minutes, then microwaving for 45-60 seconds until puffy (allow to cool before serving) to help decrease the risk of choking when being served.
#6 Purebites + Skin & Coat Squeezable
Purebites + Skin & Coat Squeezable Chicken Flavor
Ingredients: 100% pure & natural chicken, water, tapioca starch, sunflower oil & tuna oil.
109 kcal/Pouch

1 Pouch for every 25 Pounds (about 11Kg) of weight
Product Highlights:
Purebites+ has never issued a recall in its lifetime.
This product only contains 5 ingredients.
Contains vital Omega-3&6 fatty acids
Contains NO additives or preservatives
Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains Chicken, Sunflower Oil & Tapioca Starch, which may trigger sensitivities or allergies in some dogs.
Has a higher kcal content than some other lickable treats on the market.
Purebites is another great brand I’ve used for quite some time, and it works amazingly as a topper or Kong toy filler. It can even be used as a lure during training since it can be squeezed out in small amounts. The only pure downside to this product that I’ve personally encountered is that my dogs and a few others have experienced digestive issues with this treat if given too frequently. Due to its high water content, there’s a chance it could give your dog the runs for the rest of the day if you overfeed this treat.
#7. Canine Caviar Alkaline Dog Treats
Canine Caviar Alkaline Dog Treats Venison Flavor
Ingredients: Venison Meal, Pearl Millet, Lamb Fat, Fermented Yeast, Whole Ground Sunflower Seeds, Whole Ground Flax Seed alfalfa nutrient concentrate, Dried Kelp, Peppermint, Parsley, Papayas, Rose Hips

Excellent source of Alkaline which is essential in balancing the PH of your dogs urine.
Contains no additives or preservatives.
Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains a high fat content and should be used in moderation to decrease the risk of obesity and diabetes.
Contains Fermented Yeast which may trigger sensitivities in some dogs and cause itching.
These treats are an absolute lifesaver for my older dog Sam. Since we adopted him he has had a range of health issues and one of the major problems we’ve run into was urinary tract and bladder issues. These treats help maintain proper PH balance while providing a convenient, tasty treat during training and enrichment. The applications for these bites are the same as the Full Moon Savory Bites during these activities and my pup absolutely love them!
#8. Dr.Marty Better Life Bites (Hip & Joint)
Dr.Marty Better Life Bites (Hip & Joint) Beef Flavor
Ingredients: Beef, Beef Liver, Beef Heart, Bone Broth, Carrot, Spinach, Beet, New Zealand Green Mussel, Salt, Sage, Mixed Tocopherols (preservative)
18kcal/ Treat

Available in multiple flavors to fit your pup’s tastes.
Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains Tocopherols for preservation.
Sits at a higher price point than other treats in this list.
Contains a high salt content; use them in moderation.
These are another excellent treat for aging dogs. When I first adopted him, Sam couldn’t jump on our couch, even though it sits quite low to the ground, due to joint pain caused by improper nutrition. These treats have helped him gain back his strength, and I’m glad to say… He can jump and run all he wants now!
#9. Bocce’s Brushy Bites
Bocce’s Brushy Bites- Apple and Mint Flavor
Ingredients: Oat Flour, Flaxseed, Coconut Glycerin, Apples, Cane Molasses, Coconut, Vegetable Oil, Mint, Citric Acid (Preservative), Mixed Tocopherols (Preservative).

Product Highlights:
Bocce’s has never issued a recall in the life of the company.
Freshens breath and helps keep gums clean.
This product is Wheat-free.
Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains Coconut Glycerin and preservatives.
Contains coconut, which some dogs may be sensitive to.
I give these to my pups pretty regularly, along with many shelter dogs. These help a lot with the dreaded “doggy breath” and are fairly soft, so furry friends old and young can enjoy them!
#10. West Paw Creamy Dog Treat
West Paw Creamy Dog Treat Peanut Butter and Banana Flavor
Ingredients: Peanuts, Organic Palm Oil, Green Banana Flour
77 kcal/ 1 TBSP
Serving Size Suggestion:
This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.
Product Highlights:
West Paw has never issued a recall in the company’s lifetime.
All natural ingredients
Contains no preservatives or additives
Why this may not be your first choice:
Contains Peanuts and Palm Oil, which some dogs may be sensitive to.
This is another really amazing squeeze treat that every pup I’ve given. It has the same applications as the Purebites+ squeeze pouch and has many uses. Although, it should be used in moderation due to its high kcal content, so be aware of that when giving to your pup!
Finding the right treats for your dog shouldn’t feel overwhelming, and I truly hope this list helped make that choice a little easier. Whether you’re rewarding good behavior, supporting their health, or just sharing a special moment. The treats you choose can make a real difference. Every dog is unique, so don’t be afraid to explore what works best for yours. At the end of the day, a happy, healthy pup is what matters most—and if this guide helped you get one step closer to that, then it’s done exactly what it was meant to do.
